[origin: DE19750402A1] 2-(1-Oxyalkyl)-4-(N-(hydrocarbyloxycarbonyl)-N-(phenylacetyl)-amino)-p yridine derivatives (I) are new. Pyridine derivatives of formula (I) and their N-oxides and pyridine N-protonated salts are new. Several classes of intermediates are also new. R1 = COY1, COOY2, COSY3, CONH2, CONHY4, CONY5Y6 or SO2Y7; Y1-Y7 = alkyl, haloalkyl, optionally substituted cycloalkyl or optionally substituted phenyl; R2 = H or alkyl; R3 = H, alkyl, halo, CN, CSNH2 or optionally substituted phenyl; R5 = phenyl (optionally substituted, e.g. by 1-4 of halo, alkyl, alkoxy, haloalkyl, haloalkoxy, NO2, CN, CSNH2, alkylthio, alkylsulfinyl and alkylsulfonyl); X = halo, alkyl, alkoxy or haloalkyl; n = 0-3. Independent claims are included for the preparation of (I); and for novel intermediates of formulae (II), (IV), (VI), (IV') and (VI'), including analogues of (II) and (IV) in which R1 is replaced by H.
