[origin: DE19751074C1] The invention relates to a malting drum (1) with at least one hurdle surface (2) parallel to the axis (2) of said drum which is substantially open on at least one face side. The open front side of the drum can be connected to a germinating air duct (19) or a kilning duct (13, 14). The drum also has a folding and/or removable face hurdle (5) which is permeable to the air. The malting drum (1) and the germinating air or kilning air conduction devices (11, 14, 13, 10) are sealed off from the environment when the drum (1) rotates or when it is in a stationary position. The pertaining device has at least one rotationally mounted malting drum (1) of the above-mentioned variety, a germinating air duct (19) and a kilning air duct (13, 14).
