[origin: WO9930301A1] The user of a communications terminal chooses a coded digital message for a specific ongoing situation, more particularly an emergency, from a series of messages with the help of an input device. The user then transmits said message to an appropriate remote station. The user can be assisted by the operating interface of the terminal in choosing the situation-specific message. The message chosen can be supplemented with additional information, i.e. user-specific information, which can be interrogated from the terminal. The coded message can be automatically translated into the national language by the receiver.
