Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9928685A1] A displacer assembly for a Stirling cycle system includes a displacer (102) and a synchronous linear electric motor (112) linked so as to drive the displacer (102). The electric motor (112) features at least one stator assembly (116) having first and second soft-magnetic pole pieces (118) defining therebetween a gap (120). The width of the gap (120) is oriented perpendicular to an axis of movement of the motor, and the stator assembly is constructed so as to generate a magnetic field aligned primarily parallel to the width of the gap (120). The motor (118) also includes at least one compound permanent magnet system (124) which has a first section (126) axially displaced from a second section (128), and magnetized opposite directions.
