Abstract (en)

A continuous casting machine starting process involves using a reduced filling level change of a temperature regulated and oscillated mold before transition to the casting operation. A continuous casting machine is started using a bottom closed mold and a pouring tube introduced into the upper part of the mould, the tube feed quantity and the mold filling level being regulated by a stopper which is immersed in the tube and which ha continuously decreasing circular cross-section at its end adjacent the tube, the inlet of the tube being closed by the stopper before the starting operation begins. The novelty is that: (a) the filling level change in the mold is low before change-over from the starting operation to the continuous casting an strand withdrawal operation; (b) the temperature of the mold side plates is regulated during the starting operation; and (c) the mold is oscillated during the starting operation.
