[origin: US6301791B1] A sharpener for soft-core pencils includes a core shaper with a shaping edge for shaping the core tip, the edge being positioned in the free space in front of the pencil-guiding channel. This shaping edge is a part of a detachably-secured, separate insert, which limits the free space at the rear housing side, and supports the shaping edge on its side facing the guide channel.
