Abstract (en)
[origin: WO0017681A1] The invention concerns a monomode optical fibre having, for a wavelength of 1550 nm an effective area not less than 60 mu m<2>, a chromatic dispersion between 3 and 14 ps/(nm.km), a chromatic dispersion slope between 0 and 0.1 ps/(nm<2>.km), and a ratio of the effective area to the chromatic dispersion slope not less than 1000 mu m<2>.nm<2>.km/ps, and a chromatic dispersion cut off wavelength less than 1480 nm. Thus the fibre has both a high effective area and a low chromatic dispersion shift, and is thereby well adapted for transmission with wavelength multiplexing. The invention also concerns an optical fibre transmission system with wavelength multiplexing using such a fibre as transmission fibre.
