[origin: WO9936922A1] The invention relates to a method for producing an inerting gas (I) to be fed into a container, especially into a nuclear plant (4) containment (2), offering a high degree of reliability and particularly simple design. The support material (T) is chemically bonded to the inerting gas (I) and is made to react with an activating agent (A). A first storage tank (6) in which the support material is maintained (E) and a device (30) for the provision of the activating agent (A) are included in a facility (1,1',1' ') which is particularly suitable for implementation of said method. Pressure-less storage of the material required to produce the inerting gas (I) is made possible by maintaining the inerting gas in a chemically bonded form.
