Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19840300A1] The invention relates to a polarity reversal protection circuit for a final electronic power stage that can be controlled via a control circuit, whereby the connection of a wrongly applied supply voltage to a control circuit and a final power stage can be interrupted by means of power FETs in at least one power supply connection when the polarity of said supply voltage is wrong. Effective polarity reversal protection is provided by means of a circuit that has been improved in terms of cost and surface requirements, whereby a single N channel power FET (T2) with a source drain section (S-D) is introduced into the positive (+) supply connection of the supply voltage (VS). The source connection (S) is joined to the positive (+) supply connection, whereby the gate connection (G) of the N channel power FET (T2) is connected to the collector (C) of a PNP transistor (T1) that is also connected to the output (A) of the control circuit (AST-IC) via a current-limiting resistor (R2). The emitter (E) of the PNP transistor (T1) is joined to the positive (+) supply connection via a conducting diode (D1) whenever a supply voltage (Vs) is wrongly applied and the base (B) of the PNP transistor (T1) is joined to the negative (ground) (-) supply connection of the supply voltage (Vs) via a base resistor (R1).
