Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9936542A1] A gene encoding a novel mitogen-activated protein ("MAP") kinase has been identified in rice, isolated and cloned. Expression of the gene is induced in response to infection with the blast pathogen, M.grisea. The gene has utility in conferring disease resistance to plants, particularly monocotyledonous plants, such as rice, wheat, maize, barley and asparagus. Vectors containing the novel gene and transformed plant cells, plants and seeds are also disclosed.
