[origin: WO9940470A1] The invention relates to an observation and mirroring device for visual observation of an object. The inventive device comprises an optical system wherein a beam path is folded at least once by a mirror. Said optical system comprises at least one non-plane mirror on which the beam impinges with an incidence angle which is different from zero. The invention is characterised in that said optical system includes a member having a surface which is symmetric relative to a plane and which shows no rotational symmetry. Said surface has a meridian bend radius increasing or decreasing in only one direction along a first line intersecting with a plane, and a sagittal bend radius increasing or decreasing in only one direction along same intersecting line. It is thus possible to produce an optical element for correcting aberrations to an extent never reached so far by means of proven and cost effective materials.
