[origin: DE19915596C1] The ratchet mechanism for a hand tool, such as a wrench, has a drive (1) with a polygonal head (8) at one end and a shoulder (12) at the other end with a tooth structure (6) and a recessed blind drilling (13). The hollow driver (2) has a polygonal opening (9) at one end and a second tooth structure (7) at the other end side, together with a firmly inserted bush (5). A sleeve (3) has a base opening (17) for the drive (1) to sit on the driver (2) with the bush (5) within the blind drilling (13), and the sleeve (3) seating grips over the drive (1) with the driver (2). When force is applied by a spring (4) or magnetic bush, both tooth structures (6,7) mesh together in a positive fit so that, when the drive (1) is moved in one direction, the teeth of the first set (6) carry the teeth of the second set (7) with them and, in the other direction, slide over them without engagement.
