[origin: DE19803888A1] The invention relates to a method for obtaining advantageous catalysts, especially for hydrogenation. According to said method, a suspension of a ruthenium compound with a specific surface area of 50 to 300 m<2>/g is brought together with a solution of at least one metal compound. At least one of these metal compounds contains a different metal to ruthenium with an atomic number of 23 to 82. The mixture of the suspension and the solution is then treated with a reducing agent.
