[origin: WO9926916A1] The present invention provides a process for the preparation of a non-ionic 5-(N-2, 3-dihydroxypropyl -acylamino)-2,4, 6-triiodo-N,N'-disubstituted -isophthalamide which process comprises reacting a non-ionic 5-acylamino-2, 4,6-triiodo-N, N'-disubstituted -isophthalamide with an oxirane in a solvent and in the presence of up to 7 mole percent of a strong base.
