[origin: DE19803054A1] Alkylene glycol ethers (I) are used as cleaning enhancers in hypochlorite-containing bleaching and disinfecting compositions. A bleaching and disinfecting composition comprises alkali metal hypochlorite (1-6 wt.%), alkylene glycol ether (0.5-5 wt.%), alkyl ether sulfate and/or amine oxide (0.5-5 wt.%), fatty acid salt (0-4 wt.%), alkali metal hydroxide (0-2 wt.%), and water and optional additives (to 100). The alkylene glycol ether is of formula (I). R<1>, R<3> = 1-8C alkyl; R<2> = H or Me; and n = 1-4.
