Abstract (en)
The disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for pre-conditioning a fixed abrasive article (100) comprising a plurality of projections (120a-120a-c) before initial use of the abrasive article for polishing a workpiece surface, comprising providing the fixed abrasive article in an initial, as manufactured, state comprising a plurality of spaced-apart abrasive particle-containing projections extending from the surface of a backing layer, the projections extending for different heights above the backing layer surface and having upper surfaces with different textures; and mechanically treating the projection to substantially equalize the heights of the projections and the textures of the upper surfaces thereof. <IMAGE>
