[origin: WO9939697A1] A method is provided for delivering pharmacological agents to a region within the subject (1) by introducing microcapsule (2) containing the agent into the bloodstream, where the microcapsule (2) has specific, and precise acoustical characteristics. The microcapsule (2) is introduced into the bloodstream of the subject (1), its location is monitored to determine its presence at the region, then ultrasonic energy from ultrasonic probe (4) is directed at the location at a frequency waveform or intensity sufficient to induce the release of the pharmacological agent at the region to achieve a pharmaceutical effect.
