Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19805334A1] The invention relates to a method for developing an active ingredient capable of directly or indirectly influencing, preferably in an intracellular manner, the function of physiologically active peptides or proteins. The influence on the function of the peptides or proteins preferably takes the form of an inhibition of said function. According to the method, first a target peptide or target protein which is able to or does physiologically participate in a peptide-peptide or protein-protein interaction is identified and selected. Usually only the identification or selection or one or more fragments of said peptide or protein is necessary. Secondly an amino acid sequence is derived or screened which interacts with the target peptide or target protein or with fragments thereof with high affinity. The derived amino acid sequence interacts with the target peptide preferably at least as well as and especially better than with its physiological interaction partner.
