[origin: DE19642119A1] The base of the cage (2) is in the form of a flat shell (3) either positioned on a pallet (5) or forming the top part of a pallet. The rim of the shell is joined to a mesh casing (8) forming the wall of the cage. The bottom rim of the mesh casing has a web (19) supported on the pallet or, if the shell forms the top part of the pallet, supported on the lower part (4) of the pallet. The rim of the shell is supported on the web. The rim of the shell, the web and the pallet or the bottom part of the pallet are positively interlocked. The web has a U-shaped profile including the bottom ends of the mesh bars.
