Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9907321A1] In previously known lifting systems for patients and the disabled it is often tiresome, painful and time-consuming when patients are rotated from left to right to be suspended in harnesses or wrapped in sheets, as it is to transfer them or put them on stretchers or other support fixtures generally requiring such handling operations. The inventive patient support fixture (2/6) is arranged on a base device and requires the presence of one nurse only, providing a saving in time and effort as well as being kind to the spinal column and enabling optimum care to be dispensed to patients who benefit for instance from gradual physical adaptation and are lifted and lowered in a smooth manner. The support units (15) run in synchronization with the central unit (1) and are configured as a dual belt system operating symmetrically when open or closed. The supporting housing which is moveably arranged on the lifting arms (5) and the supporting arms (9 and 11) move symmetrically in pairs. The length of the head rests (14) is adjustable. The rotating device (4) can be adjusted on both sides to 180 DEG . The inventive support fixture allows even patients and disabled persons who are heavily overweight to be raised and lowered in a gentle manner, for example in an intensive care station or on an operating table.
