[origin: WO9929398A1] The reactor (1) has an adsorbent chamber (2) which is delimited by a gas-permeable entry wall (3) and a gas-permeable exit wall (4). An extended temperature sensor (5) is arranged on the exit wall (4) in a meander shape. In the event that a hot spot forms in the adsorbent, the temperature sensor detects the overheated area of the gas being purified and gives off a corresponding pressure signal. The temperature sensor (5) has a jacket which is filled with nitrogen under excess pressure. In the event of an overheated area forming, the jacket softens until it becomes permeable. This produces an abrupt drop in pressure which triggers an intervention in the reactor control system and/or sets off an alarm.
