[origin: DE19807454A1] The spacer (10) is a hollow profiled section with two parallel spaced side walls and two arms (20,22) extending between same. The ratio of the thickness of the arms to the thickness of the side walls (16,18) is 0.8 or less and/or the heat permeability resistance in the arms is higher than in the side walls. The hollow cavity in the spacer contains one or more webs running parallel to the side walls. At least some areas of the plastics material are strengthened by reinforcement material.
