[origin: WO9942879A1] An optical transmitter module comprises a single package (21) enclosing a laser assembly (22, 23, 24) and an integrated optical circuit (32) having an input waveguide and an output waveguide. An optical fibre stub (27) optically interconnects the laser assembly and the optical circuit (32), the fibre stub (27) having one end supported to receive light from the laser assembly and the other end (33) optically coupled to the input waveguide of the optical circuit. An output optical fibre (34) is in optical communication with the output waveguide of the optical circuit and leads out of the package, whereby light emanating from the laser assembly is fed to the optical circuit and is there subjected to data-encoding before leaving the package through the output optical fibre.
