Abstract (en)

[origin: WO0040023A1] The invention relates to a receiver for and a method of displaying text data. For example, a television receiver (1) for displaying teletext data (D), comprising a receiver (21) for digital character codes and a memory (23) containing character sets (000, 001, ...) that transform the character codes into characters displayed on a screen (3), with user-selection means (41) for the character set. Character sets are usually divided into blocks (I, II, ...). In a further embodiment, the invention provides user-selection means at block level to limit the amount of choices. Within a block, the character set to be used is determined by a 3-bit language code in the header of a teletext page. In a practical embodiment, a language I/II button (41) for audio is used in the teletext mode to select from at least two blocks. In a further practical embodiment, this selection is stored in a non-volatile memory (7) for each preset. This invention provides an easy way of selecting a character set for the representation of characters.
