[origin: DE19921725A1] Procedure in which the end of a cigarette (25) is illuminated from two light sources so that two light strips are formed on its end. The reflected light (33) forms an image of these strips and is captured and analyzed by a detector (32). The difference in separation between the two reflected light strips is used to determine that the tobacco end of the cigarette is correctly filled. An Independent claim is made for a device for testing the ends of cigarettes to make sure they are correctly filled.
