[origin: EP1059253A1] The stack lifting device has a controllable drive which can be influenced by a device (15) determining the height of the top side of the paper stack. The driver of the device is a servomotor (19), having an electrical gear factor adjustment. This adjustment can be implemented in steps of different sizes. The selection of step size takes place according to the height of the top side of the paper stack.
