[origin: DE19809624C1] The invention relates to an electronic immobilizer system for a vehicle, especially an automobile, comprising a portable transponder carrying coded information and a control device mounted in the vehicle, wherein the control device and the transponder interact by means of a frequency-interrogation-response dialogue to interrogate the coded information of the transponder and the interrogation frequency is altered until the coded information of the transponder is recognized by the control device. Interrogation of the transponder can be substantially accelerated in that a storage (SP) is allocated to the control device ( mu P), in which non-matching parameters of successful interrogations can be permanently stored, and in that a new interrogation of the transponder begins with one of the last stored non-matching parameters or the interrogation frequency allocated to the most frequently used successful non-matching parameters.
