[origin: DE19813328A1] In joint prostheses having a joint partner as a ball head, especially in hip joint endoprostheses, the surgeon places and fastens the ball head on the cone of the shaft by hand. The polished surface of the ball head makes the handling thereof difficult, as the surgeon's gloves become wet from body fluids. In addition, said surface can be scratched by devices used during the operation and by residue on the surgeon's gloves. Protective coverings already exist, but they are difficult to remove from the ball heads due to their shape which is adapted to the shape of the ball. In order to solve this problem, the invention provides a mounting (9) in the form of a plate (10) which is arranged on the pole (12) of the protective cap (2). In addition, the plate (10) comprises a shape and expanse similar to those of the protective cap (2) which make it possible to engage said plate from underneath on the side (18) facing the protective cap (2).
