Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2335583A] A system for discrete beam intensity modulation uses a multi-leaf collimator to determine irradiation from a linear accelerator. The leaves of the collimator are adjusted during irradiation (Fig.2a), and the diaphragms or jaws of a further collimator are advanced beyond the collimator leaves (Fig.2b) when necessary so as to prevent over-dosing while maintaining at least minimum leaf separation. An algorithm is used to control the movement of the collimators.
