[origin: WO9819753A1] In a hockey stick handle (2) having a pair of opposed narrow sides, a pair of opposed broad sides, a rear end (3), a forward end portion (4), and a longitudinal axis passing through said ends, the forward end portion being configured for engaging a blade (5), the improvement wherein the handle comprises a longitudinally extending sandwich composite member. The sandwich member comprises three longitudinally extending substance zones (15, 16, 17). The substance zone comprises a rigid plastic foam spacer zone (17) and two wood side zones (15, 16). The side zones (15, 16) are spaced apart by the spacer zone (17). The three substance zones (15, 16, 17) are configured and disposed such that each side zone individually faces a respective side of one of the pairs of opposed sides of the handle and such that together the two side zones (15, 16) and the spacer zone (17) each face both of the other pairs of opposed sides of the handle (2).
