[origin: DE19902076A1] The sensor has an oscillator (4) for generating a carrier signal, a first modulation switch (17) for modulating pulses onto the carrier, a transmission antenna (7) for transmitting the pulses towards the object (2), a receiving antenna (8) for reflected pulses, a power divider (16) between the oscillator and modulation switch, a second modulation switch (19) for modulating pulses onto the carrier from the power divider, a variable delay arrangement (11,12) for a second pulse signal, a comparison device (14) for the first signal transition time and second signal delay time and a device for determining distance from the delay and the pulse signal propagation speed. A third modulation switch (21) arranged between the power divider and oscillator is driven by a trigger signal and a delayed trigger signal.
