[origin: US6363960B1] This invention relates to a frost protection device for preventing sections of water pipes which are in danger of being affected by frost from freezing up. Said frost protection device consists essentially of a pressure control valve with a piston-type valve body which moves axially in a cylindrical housing. The pressure control valve also interacts with a valve seat which is connected to the section of pipe being monitored. According to the invention, the valve seat is located outside of the flow path defined by the section of pipe, in a branch which constantly communicates with said section of pipe.
