[origin: EP1069226A1] A sewing machine needle has an eye (7) at an acute angle, e.g. less than 15 degrees , with the needle axis (11) and that is long enough so that there is some distance between opposite edges (15,18) of the entry (12) and exit (14). Near the exit (14) is a lateral hump (22), which is blended into the needle outline and has a height preferably less than 80% of the diameter of the eye (7). An Independent claim is also included for a needle with an angled eye of circular cross-section and a lateral hump near the eye exit.
