[origin: WO9949278A1] The present invention relates to a method and an arrangement for gauging a distance between at least two surfaces of an object (11), the arrangement including illumination means (15, 16, 20) arranged to illuminate each of said at least two surfaces, at least one optical element (17, 29, 30) arranged to project reflections from each surface onto a sensor (18). The optical element (17, 29, 30) is arranged in a section in front of said sensor to direct scattered illumination rays (37), directly incident from said at least two surfaces onto said sensor and generate a representation of the distance between said at least two surfaces of the object (11).
