[origin: DE19815435A1] The invention relates to an ion mobility spectrometer, especially a miniaturized ion mobility spectrometer. The potential guide surfaces (51,62) of the ion collector (5) and the ion gate (6) form an angle of substantially less than 90 DEG with the axis of the drift chamber. As a result, openings (52,62) can be provided on the front faces of the drift chamber for a required supply of purge gas without having to reduce the size of the potential guide surfaces (51,61).
