Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19816984A1] A knee-joint prosthesis has a metal/metal, ceramic/ceramic or ceramic/plastic pairing of an anterior plate section (8) and a patella seating face (7) or a natural patella paired with a ceramic anterior plate section insert. A knee-joint prosthesis has a patella component (5) with an anterior plate section (8) and a seating face (7) which comprise a sliding pairing of (a) a metallic anterior plate section (8) and a metallic seating face (7); (b) a ceramic anterior plate section (8) and a ceramic seating face (7); or (c) a ceramic anterior plate section (8) and a plastic seating face (7). An Independent claim is also included for a similar knee-joint prosthesis employing a natural patella which contacts an anterior plate section (8) of a femoral component (2), the anterior plate section (8) being a ceramic insert. Preferred Features: The ceramic is aluminum oxide, zirconium oxide, a mixed aluminum oxide-zirconium oxide ceramic or another bio-compatible ceramic.
