Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19808296A1] The invention relates to a method for the selective hydrolysis of acetals in the presence of phthalides. According to said method a mixture (M) containing a) a phthalide of the formula (I) and b) an acetal or ketal of the formula (II) is reacted in the presence of between 1 and 10 mol water relative to the quantity of acetals or ketals of formula (II) at temperatures of between 10 and 200 DEG C, whereby the acetal or ketal of formula (II) is hydrolysed to the corresponding aldehyde or ketone. The substituents R<1>-R<8> have the meanings given in the description.
