The invention concerns a receptacle for a stone funerary urn (10) comprising a cylindrical block (11) hollowed from one first end to a second end (18) and a cover (12) comprising a sealing portion and an assembling portion (13), the sealing portion closing the block first end, the assembling portion (13) projecting from the first end, the second end (18) comprising an internal countersinking (19) for receiving an inner seal (20) and be fitted on an assembling portion (13) projecting from the cover of another identical receptacle (10'), to form a funerary column. The invention further concerns a method for making such receptacles from a column turned in natural stone, which consists in carrying out a double coaxial coring of the column in one single operation, to form the block (11) comprising a cylindrical recess passing through from a first end to a second end (18) and a countersinking (19) of an internal portion of the recess.
