[origin: WO9955774A1] The application relates to a process for blending a cellulose ester with a functional additive, by: (a) admixing the functional additive with the cellulose ester and a first acid; and (b) contacting the admixture with an aqueous precipitating agent, whereby a blend comprising the cellulose ester and the functional additive coprecipitates. The application further relates to a process for preparing a controlled release matrix system for an agricultural additive or a pharmaceutical additive, and to controlled release matrix system composed of a homogeneous mixture of (a) at least one biodegradable cellulose ester and (b) at least one agricultural additive or pharmaceutical additive.
