Abstract (en)
[origin: FR2790109A1] An L band doped fiber optical amplifier (8), has a low population inversion doped monomode fiber core (16) with a signal-pumped internal multimode sheath (18). An L band optical amplifier (8) has a doped optical fiber (10) consisting of a monomode core (16) which is doped to induce a mean population inversion rate of less than 50% and which is clad with an internal multimode sheath (18) and an external sheath (20), the pump signal being injected into the internal sheath (18). An Independent claim is also included for an optical transmission system comprising a fiber-optic cable (2), two terminal stations (4, 6) and the above optical amplifier (8). Preferred Features: The mean population inversion rate is 35-45% and the core dopant is erbium (Er).
