[origin: DE19823440C1] The invention relates to a method and device for casting rectangular metal bars, especially steel bars, close to final dimensions and subsequent in-line rolling out of said bars. The inventive device is provided with a material feed tank that enables liquid metal to be transferred from said tank and deposited on the top end of a conveyor belt by means of outflowing nozzles, whereupon the solidified liquid metal is transmitted to a rolling stand to be shaped. The invention is characterised by the following steps:(a) Before casting begins, (aa) the point where the liquid metal is fed to the conveyor belt is determined in an approximate manner, (ab) the speed of conveyance of said conveyor belt is adjusted according to the desired rolling thickness and rolling speed of the rolling stand; (b) during casting, (ba) the state of solidification of the metal bar on the conveyor belt is detected, (bb) the temperature of the rolling stock is detected in the area of the rolling stand; and (bc) the state of solidification and the temperature of the rolling stock are used as controlled variables for the actual position of the point at which the liquid metal leaves the material feed tank and is fed onto the conveyor belt.
