Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19911068A1] A fuel supply system (1) for a motor vehicle is known in which the fuel flows through the fuel filter (6) of the fuel supply system in one direction only. In such a system, any sediments (10) that are present in the fuel are deposited on the filter material (8) so that the flow resistance of the filter material is gradually increasing. The aim of the invention is to provide a fuel supply system for a motor vehicle in which the flow resistance of the fuel filter remains virtually constant. To this end, a sedimentation pan (9) is provided in a housing of the fuel filter (6) below the filter material (8) which is mounted in the housing (7) in which pan the sediments (10) filtered off from the fuel (4) are deposited. An accumulator (15) is mounted in the fuel supply system that allows that the fuel (4) stored in the accumulator (15) scavenges the fuel filter (6) once the engine is switched off.
