[origin: WO9960291A1] A valve actuator includes a motor (40) for changing a position of a valve (18), a switch for switching power to the motor and a sensor (U2) for detecting the arrival of the valve at a desired position and for stopping the motor without using a mechanical stop. Another embodiment comprises a ball valve (18), a valve seat (20a) and a springy washer (30) to provide an axial force on the valve seat. Another embodiment comprises a method of operating a valve comprising determining the charge on a capacitive power source (C1) and determining whether or not there is sufficient energy charge to complete a prescribed valve movement before initiating the valve movement. Another embodiment comprises an actuator for a valve comprising a motor (40), gear (31), cluth (38) and a knob (70) to manually actuate the valve.
