[origin: WO9959247A1] The invention relates to a timing device for generating and emitting a multitude of signal edges by modifying signal states at definable instants. The timing device comprises a cyclically addressable memory in which a multitude of timing events are memorized. A timing value corresponding to a predefined instant and a multitude of predefined signal states are assigned to each timing event. The timing device further comprises a comparator which compares the instantaneous reading of a counter with the timing value, instantaneously read out from the memory, of a timing event. In case of agreement the next timing event is read out from the memory. The timing device further comprises an output unit which outputs the predefined signal states. The timing device makes it possible to freely program periodically repeated timings by corresponding assignment of the memory.
