Extruded filaments (8) are formed into a group and pass through a cooling zone (4) where they are cooled by a coolant flow, but do not solidify. Further cooling and final solidification occurs in a stressing zone (6) below the cooling zone. Cooling conditions in the cooling zone can be varied to influence the location of the solidification area within a set section of the stressing zone. An Independent claim is made for the process plant which has upper (5) and lower (7) cooling shafts, a coolant flow producer (20) and apparatus (10) for varying the position of filament solidification inside the lower cooling shaft.

Es sind ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung zum Spinnen eines multifilen Fadens aus einem thermoplastischen Material beschrieben. Dabei wird das thermoplastische Material mittels einer Spinndüse (2) zu strangförmigen Filamenten (8) extrudiert, die nach dem Erstarren als Faden aufgewickelt werden. Zur Abkühlung wird das Filamentbündel in einer Kühlzone (4) unterhalb der Spinndüse (2) derart vorgekühlt, daß die Filamente nicht erstarren. Das Filamentbündel wird dann anschließend unter Einwirkung eines in Fadenlauf gerichteten Kühlmedienstroms in einer Spannungszone (6) geführt und weiter abgekühlt bis die Filamente (8) in einem Erstarrungsbereich innerhalb der Spannungszone (6) erstarren. Um die Lage des Erstarrungsbereiches der Filamente (8) innerhalb der Spannungszone (6) in einem vorgegebenen Sollbereich der Spannungszone (6) zu halten, ist erfindungsgemäß die Kühlung der Filamente innerhalb der Kühlzone (4) einstellbar.
