[origin: EP1081382A2] A cam rotation sensor detects rotation of camshafts (1) supported on upper and lower cam shaft holders (12,13). Detection projections (18) are provided on thrust plates (17) which are fixed to the camshaft ends. These abut with an axial end face or thrust receiving face (31) of the cam holder for regulating the axial positions of the camshafts. Proximity sensors (23) are attached to the wall (20) which is integrated into the cam holder.
