[origin: DE19812857A1] The invention relates to a method for producing styrene polymers containing water as the only inflating agent by polymerising styrene in an aqueous suspension in the presence of between 0.1 and 5 weight % of a thermolabile organic compound, which when the temperature is raised decomposes into amphiphilic and/or hydrophilic compounds, whereby the maximum polymerisation temperature is higher than the decomposition temperature of the thermolabile compound.
