[origin: DE19823613A1] The invention relates to a method for tensioning yarns, especially in yarn and warp machines, whereby a yarn (4) of a warp creel is passed between two tensioning plates (14, 15), whereby the tension of the yarn required for winding is obtained by pressing or lifting and separating the tensioning plates. In order to be able to process all types of yarns using one single tensioning plate, the invention provides that one tensioning plate (15) is displaced to an open position (15') during winding, wherein the yarn (4) passes through the tensioning plate (14, 15) without touching the latter.
