The invention relates to a method for freeing an object underground, such as a pipe or a drilling rod used for horizontal drilling. The apparatus according to the invention comprises a body (1) having an opening for receiving the object (A) to be freed. The body is provided in the circumferential direction of object (A) with soil material-loosening means (3).
