[origin: EP0950510A1] A sheet of thermoplastic is incorporated between the core (10) of the floor covering and the decorative facing (3), An Independent claim is included for the subject covering. Preferred features: The plastic sheet (20) is a barrier layer, sealing the covering. Additives in the sheet include e.g. filler, oils, antioxidants, stearin and/or pigments. The viscosity of the mixture is adapted to prevent flow. The composition is selected for bonding at 120-200 degrees C under a pressure of 60-120 kg/m<2>. The sheet is interposed without adhesive. A further sheet is included between the backing and the core. The intermediate, core layer (10) is a dry mixture of fine organic particles and a non cross-linked adhesive powder. This mixtures is lightly packed using a roller, for successive placement of decorative facing (3) and possibly a sheet (4) forming a wearing layer. The intermediate core layer, constituted as described, may be pre-molded to shape, at a temperature of 50-100 degrees C and under pressure of 30-100 kg/m<2>. The fine organic particles are wood flour and/or e.g. cellulose fibers, possibly with other harder synthetic particles.
